Being an entrepreneur isn’t just about managing a team of amazing people or owning your own business. It’s about living in a state of gratitude, keeping your goals in mind, and being consistent.

One thing I know for sure is that when we truly believe in ourselves and what we do, our passion and excitement will inspire others to shine brightly.
When I first left my corporate job and started my first business, I did a lot of self reflection. I had to find the strength and belief within myself to know what I wanted to do; to know that no matter what came my way, I could rise to meet the challenge. I had to believe for myself that I had the power and drive within myself to keep moving forward.
It’s like I always say: everyone starts somewhere between scared and nervous, but we all have to start somewhere! That’s the beauty of living the journey of a boss babe.
Here are my 5 top tips for becoming your own boss babe:
1. Plan to Fail… A Lot
Always remember that the path to success is not a straight line. Your journey towards greatness might lead you in a million different directions—and that’s okay! In fact, it’s bound to happen. As long as you keep your goals in mind and let your heart guide you, you will always forge ahead.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve faced challenges along my path that have lead me to pause and reevaluate where I’m headed. It’s in these moments that I’ve learned to reflect on my options and accept what didn’t go my way. I’ve learned to choose what will propel me forward.
In the end, failure is just another step towards success. Let it lead you to your important discovery—growth!
2. Speak Less, Listen More
As leaders, everyone looks to us for answers. They expect us to make all the decisions. But when everyone is looking at you to say something, the most important thing you can do is take a breath—and instead, listen.
Being a true leader means hearing all the voices of those around you—your team, your clients, your audience. True boss babes amplify the voices of others and speak up for everyone. They don’t make decisions with blinders on. They make choices that will benefit everyone. It’s like the old saying goes: when everyone plays, we all win!
3. Empower Your Team to Shine
Win or lose, a true boss babe is always responsible for her team. This means making sure everyone has a seat at the table, everyone feels engaged and connected, and most importantly, everyone feels empowered to do great work.
Not sure how to empower someone? Well, it all starts with kindness. Remind your team daily that you appreciate them. Tell them when they do a great job, and let them know it’s okay when they mess up. Allowing your team room to learn and grow from their experiences will help the entire team grow closer and win BIG!
4. Embrace The Things You Cannot Change
This one might be the most challenging skill to learn on this list.
For so many of us, we strive for perfection. We think being perfect at everything and succeeding the first time we try something is a sign of natural ability and knowing what we’re good at. We pride ourselves for taking things on head first and jumping all-in from the start.
But when we allow ourselves to think this way, we panic under pressure. When we allow the challenges and obstacles to cloud our vision, we second-guess ourselves and diminish our true potential.
That’s why being open to change is so transformative. It allows us to see obstacles as nothing but arrows along our path, pointing us in the right direction. Challenge yourself to see change as stepping stones and be willing to pivot towards uncharted territory. You never know what great things may lie ahead!
5. Believe In Yourself
I know what you’re thinking—this one is so obvious! And you’re right. But the truth is believing in your own abilities to do anything you set you mind to takes so much heart and determination.
Being a boss babe means more than just having a good idea or owning your own business. Because let’s face it: life always gets in the way, and nothing is ever as easy as we think it will be. It’s not always easy charging full-speed ahead when you’re having a bad day and things aren’t going your way.
But what sets boss babes apart from the rest is our ability to take all those challenges in stride—and to learn from them! The reason we are able to coach, teach and lead others to greatness is because we too have been shown the way by great boss babes, mentors and teachers.
